Working with an Advisory Team
The Principal Advisor assumes a leadership role with a minimum 50% advisory load, while the Associate Advisor(s) provides added breadth of opinion, multidisciplinary knowledge and technical skill. While this management team provides a diversity of opinions, do not lose sight of the fact that (in almost all cases) the intellectual and financial driving force behind your research project is your Principal Advisor. You need to build a working relationship with your Advisory Team that values consensus over confrontation, that recognizes the leadership role of the Principal Advisor and the expertise and contribution of your Associate Advisor(s). Truly outstanding discoveries are almost always the result of teamwork. What better place to seek out teamwork and outstanding discoveries than your Advisory Team.
